For as long as I can remember, I have
been a dancer.
I started taking dance lessons when I was five. During high school I started
going to clubs. I went to my first goth club when I was about eighteen
(remember Revival on 3rd Street?).
After high school I stopped taking dance lessons, but continued to go to clubs.
About five years ago I really started to miss the dance classes that had been
such a constant in my life, but didn't think I'd feel comfortable taking ballet
or jazz again. At this point in my life I got married and had a baby, and then
another baby.
Almost one year after I had my second child I discovered tribal bellydance and
began taking lessons. I was hooked immediately! I loved that this style of
dance was about being part of a group. Tribal dancing merges the energies of
the dancers and creates a collective vibe.
Being a member of Ak-Ana has given me the chance to combine my love of goth
music and aesthetics with the form of dance I have grown to love, creating a
unique dancing experience. My sister dancers are an inspiration to me.
