A total education in Ghawazi Style for Dance Troupes and Tribal Dancers that want to add this tribal heritage to their repertoire. The workshop consists of 2 days of instruction and will include the following:
Saturday, June 2 Workshop Day I
Registration will begin at 11:15 Workshop will begin at 12:noon SHARP
Lecture on the history of the Ghawazi
Dance demonstration
Costume Demonstration: The evolution of the Ghawazi Costume
Instruction in Ghawazi Technique
Ghawazi staging and working together in pairs
Saturday Evening: Danza Al'Khemi Hafla - Featuring Habiba
Free admission for weekend workshop attendees!
7pm till Midnight - Performances begin at 8:30
Please bring pillows for lounging

Habiba will teach an 11 minute group choreography* to music given to her by Benat Mazin
*Includes a cane section
Students will receive:

Day 1 Only: $75
Day 1 & 2: $135 and includes admission to the Danza Al’Khemi Hafla on Saturday, June 2.
~ Participants are encouraged to take both days of instruction.
~ In order to gain admission to Day 2, you must take Day 1 - No Exceptions!

Hafla performers
We kindly request that at least one dancer from your group is in attendance for the Workshop.
Solo/Duet/Trio 7 minute limit.
Troupes of 4 or more 9 minute limit.
New performers will earn performance spaces first!

About Habiba
Habiba has been a performer, teacher and workshop instructor for over 25 years. She has made numerous trips to Tunisia and Egypt to document traditional dance styles and to perform. Her articles on Tunisian and Egyptian dance have appeared in many dance publications like Habibi and Arabesque. She is a Fellow of the University of Pennsylvania Middle East Center and an outreach lecturer at the University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a passionate advocate in creating new audiences for Middle Eastern dance. She has been a guest lecturer at Philadelphia's University of the Arts and the Middle East Institute, Washington DC. In 1997 She was inducted into the American Academy of Middle Eastern Dance "Hall of Fame" and has been named IAMED's "Ethnic Dancer of the Year 2001".
